PVC-Coated Steel Sheet Piles: The Preferred Choice for Long-Term Erosion Protection and Retaining Walls in Saltwater Waterways

Coastal waterways and tidal channels are constantly exposed to multiple forms of erosion, including saltwater corrosion, water scouring, and weathering from sunlight. Traditional steel sheet piles are prone to rust, wooden piles are susceptible to rot, and concrete is bulky and difficult to install. Thanks to their modified vinyl formulation and Z-shaped mechanical structure, Z-type vinyl-coated steel sheet piles have emerged as a key new material for riverbank protection, earth retention, and seepage prevention, offering both durability and cost-effective installation.

The product is made from high-density vinyl raw materials, blended with specialized UV-resistant and anti-aging additives, and formed through a single-step extrusion process, thereby addressing the problem of chloride ion corrosion from seawater at its source. Even after prolonged immersion in areas where saltwater and freshwater mix, the product will not rust or develop scale, and it is resistant to erosion caused by marine organism fouling. It remains resistant to brittleness and cracking even after years of exposure to sunlight in open-air shoreline sections. With a designed service life of up to 50 years, it requires virtually no maintenance such as painting or rust removal, significantly reducing riverway operation and maintenance costs.
The unique Z-shaped cross-section provides greater structural moment of inertia and outstanding resistance to lateral earth pressure. Combined with precision one-piece interlocking joints, the assembled wall forms a tight, watertight seal that effectively withstands the powerful scouring action of water flows during the flood season, preventing soil erosion on riverbanks and seepage-induced collapses. Compared to ordinary flat piles, the Z-shaped profile disperses the impact force of water waves, providing stable support in both soft soil and sandy riverbeds. It is suitable for various water environment projects, including inland rivers, coastal tidal flats, and embankments around aquaculture ponds.
