Common Issues and Solutions for Plastic Steel Sheet Piles in Practical Applications

1. Tilting Issue ‌Cause: Uneven pile driving resistance or inconsistent geological conditions along the driving path. ‌Solution: Gradually correct by pulling the pile sideways with steel wire ropes while driving. Continuously monitor, control, and adjust using instruments during construction. If caused by inconsistent geology, conduct preliminary surveys and adjust pile driving machinery stability. 2. Torsion Issues ‌Cause:‌ Corrosion or deformation of steel sheet pile interlocks causing poor sliding. ‌Solution:‌ Inspect interlocks before driving; address corrosion or deformation promptly. Apply lubricating grease inside interlocks to reduce resistance. Use clamping plates to secure preceding interlocks during construction to prevent torsion.
3. Co-sinking (Adjacent Piles Sinking Together) ‌Cause:‌ Increased resistance at the tongue-and-groove joints due to bent sheet piles. ‌Solution:‌ Correct tilted sheet piles promptly; temporarily weld co-sinking piles to already driven piles. Horizontal Expansion ‌Cause:‌ Gap at interlocking joints (normal phenomenon)‌ Solution:‌ Incorporate horizontal expansion allowance in design; correct during axis adjustment.
5. Seepage and Sand Ripple ‌Cause:‌ Uncorrected old piles, loose interlocking joints, or insufficient verticality.‌ Solution:‌ Correct old piles before driving; Use axis closure method when closure is difficult; reinstall piles if verticality fails to meet requirements.
6. Lateral Tilt and Ground Settlement ‌Cause: Insufficient embedment depth or excessive ground load. Solution: Calculate embedment depth per specifications; prohibit excavators and dump trucks from operating near foundation pits; increase pile depth or use compaction grouting for waterproofing if necessary.
7. Difficult Pile Extraction ‌Cause:‌ Corrosion of locking joints, excessively hard soil, or deformation due to untimely support. ‌Solution:‌ Apply repeated vibration before extraction to overcome soil adhesion; coat locking joints with grease to reduce resistance; maintain distance between extraction equipment and pile to minimize lateral pressure.
